River Deben Tapestry Project

Stitching the River Deben sounds a daunting project especially as it is 5.5metres long. How will we do it ?
At this taster workshop we will discuss the various mediums and types of stitches that could be used to tell the story of the river over the centuries.
The main body of the river could be done with a combination of Knitting and Felting which could have embroidery stitches over the top to imitate the movement of the river in flood or in ebb revealing the silver mud at low tide.
Your stories can show life on, in and beside the river , in the fields and surrounding areas.
The river is divided into 12 named areas . Please create your own story for whatever period you choose .
You can choose a number relating to a particular piece of river . There can be more than one person for this section .It will be lovely to see the variety of stories and historical periods that you choose to depict.
Pieces of linen will be made available for you take home or I can post out to work on that we can then applique onto the tapestry in your chosen area when finished. This way the Tapestry project can reach far and wide nationally or internationally and give those who have visited Woodbridge and the River Deben a chance to record their thoughts about the river .
Knitting, crochet, embroidery, tapestry stitch, collage work, machine embroidery, in fact anything .
It is your choice how you tell your story.
