Maritime Woodbridge 8 and 9 September in and around the Longshed

There will be lots to do and see over Maritime Woodbridge weekend: on the river, in the Longshed workshop and on the mezzanine.


On the river  

On Saturday 8 September there will be opportunities to row or ride as a passenger on Sae Wylfing, the half-length replica of the Anglo-Saxon Sutton Hoo burial ship.  Email Jacq Barnard to book a place

In the Longshed workshop 

  • recreating the full-scale Sutton Hoo ship – opportunities to see a new short film introducing the project and talk to people from the Ship’s Company about what’s involved
  • knots and sailor’s rope work Des Pawson one of the world’s leading authorities, will demonstrate the ancient art of rope making (Sunday only)
  • talk to the people building the first of the Deben-based St Ayles rowing skiffs

On the Longshed mezzanine

  • an exhibition of Sue Whisstock’s photos chronicling the history of the Whisstocks boatyard
  • memorabilia of past events on the Deben
  • Spirit of the river, place and Beowulf through music, projections, art and poetry curated by Jan Pulsford
