It was an absolute joy to welcome Anton Bowring to The Gallery in The Longshed on Saturday June 7th to give his talk “ To the Ends of the Earth” which was about the Transglobe Expedition led by Sir Rannulph Fiennes in 1979 . This was the first and only land and sea voyage around the world crossing both poles without leaving the world’s surface. 
What an inspirational and exciting expedition to be a part of . Anton was responsible for recruiting the 16 crew members and locating and securing the ice strengthened ship Benjamin Bowring which he sailed on for three years covering over 50,000miles at sea.
Those who came to hear Anton speak were fascinated and in awe hearing about this extraordinary expedition.
It’s not often that our speakers step into the breach when we have technical issues, but Anton did. He was quite happy to stand on a chair and fix it. Thanks Anton.
