Christmas by the riverside – Save the date!
A sparkling Christmas extravaganza of fun, music and food is in store for residents and visitors in Woodbridge on the weekend of 16th/17th December.
Taking place alongside the River Deben at Whisstocks Place and the Longshed, opposite the Tide Mill, this free family event is being hosted by Woodbridge Riverside Trust, with financial help and support from local businesses, town and district councils and individual donors.
Among attractions on offer in the square all weekend, there will be Santa in his Grotto, live Christmas music, Morris dancing, roving storytellers, children’s games, film projections, vegetarian Christmas food as well as mulled wine, mead and mince pies – the Christmas lights and decorations adding to the magical festival atmosphere.
In the Longshed gallery, there will be winter films showing all weekend, two children’s craft workshops, a weaving demonstration, workshops on Anglo-Saxon drawing and design given by well-known artist Claudia Myatt – and much more.
All events are free with two extra ticketed events:- on Saturday 16th there will be a Yuletide Ring (Christmas wreath) workshop, and on Sunday 17th Dr Sam Newton FSA will be giving a talk on ‘Yuletide to Nativity’, a historical perspective on the significance of the great midwinter festival and how it was celebrated. Tickets available from Eventbrite and The Longshed Shop.
There’ll be something for everyone at this two-day celebration of Christmas and it promises to be a spectacular event just a week before the big day.
