Welcome to the Longshed, a maritime heritage initiative at the heart of our community

Woodbridge Riverside Trust (WRT), a nonprofit community organisation, welcomes you to the Longshed, our unique maritime heritage initiative, in the heart of the Woodbridge waterfront.

The Longshed is open to visitors from 11.00-13.00 each Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and on other days for special events and exhibitions.

The once derelict site of the old Whisstocks Boatyard has been transformed.  In April 2018 we took on the lease of the Longshed, a purpose built community resource comprising a boatbuilding workshop and mezzanine gallery.   The Longshed is home to a range of creative projects that people can take part in, or simply watch progress.  We want to secure real long term benefits through opportunities to find out about our outstanding maritime heritage and riverside environment, through learning, training, developing skills and, most of all, enjoyment.

Things are happening on the waterfront… Find out about us. Explore what we offer.  Join the people who are already getting involved in projects ranging from building a canoe to reconstructing a 27 metre Anglo-Saxon ship. Help celebrate our maritime heritage and shape our waterfront future.

Go to our news page to find out what’s going on and events for a schedule of activities coming up through the year.

Help support The Longshed - donate now!

Woodbridge Riverside Trust took on The Longshed, leased from Woodbridge Town Council, in April 2018.  Over £90,000 raised from grants and individual donations together with hundreds of hours of time contributed by volunteers has transformed the “shell” building into a well-equipped workshop with a large mezzanine gallery for activities and events which is accessible by stairs and a lift.

The Longshed is open part-time all year round.   It is a place where organisations, local businesses, schools, creative artists and people of all ages and abilities can:

  • organise and take part in practical activities that they enjoy
  • volunteer as researchers, guides and “labourers” to support the Anglo-Saxon ship build project
  • take part in smaller boat building projects
  • find things out, join in activities and see demonstrations and exhibitions
  • organise events, creative projects and exhibitions on the John Gibbins mezzanine gallery

This is Your Community Resource, so … Please donate what you can here or get in touch with us to find out about other ways you can help – 100% of your donation will go to The Longshed.
